Intelligent Network Security Solution
By Bret Jones, PolarStar Practice Manager
Network security is a critical component to a company’s success when doing business over the internet. Intelligent Network Security solutions from Polar Systems enable customers to focus on their core business instead of monitoring and responding to network disruptions caused by both internal and external attacks, human error and the demands of regulatory compliance.
A corporation’s network has become increasingly more critical to the productivity and profitability in both large and small organizations. As companies extend these networks to suppliers, remote offices, partners and customers around the world, protecting the critical applications and business information that reside on these networks has become a primary concern of IT executives worldwide.
Internet Security has a direct impact on how companies manage internal networks, integrate new technologies and applications, and comply with new government regulations and industry standards - all while the variety and sophistication of security threats continue to evolve. Given the scope of the challenge, simply expanding an inadequate patchwork of tactical and “reactive” security point solutions is not an option. Most experts agree that internet security now must be viewed as a strategic business imperative.

Managed Intrusion Detection and Prevention System
Managed Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (MIDPS) is integrated into the security appliance and is responsible for detecting anomalous, inappropriate, or other data that may be considered unauthorized on your network. A regular firewall is configured to allow or deny access to a particular service or host based on a set of rules. If the traffic matches an acceptable rule, it is permitted regardless of what the packet contains. However, MIDPS enables the Security Operations Center to capture and inspect all traffic, regardless of whether it’s permitted or not. Based on the content of each and every packet, it is determined if it is safe. If it is dangerous, an alert is generated. ProtectPoint detects, alerts and blocks for security threats including buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes and NetBIOS queries, NMAP and other port scanners, backdoors, Trojans and Microsoft operating system and applications vulnerabilities, DDoS clients and many more.
